This is the only book you need to be a never retired writer. I love that every chapter has one sentence summaries. And oh, it has thought provoking questions and action steps too! It's so good that you'd be stupid to miss this.

The NRW is one of the best resources I have read as a beginning writer! The chapters are short (usually less than four pages long); this concise focus makes his valuable training easily understood and understandable. Every chapter ends with a one sentence chapter review and, usually, a precise action step. I developed the practice of reading the one sentence summary first and that helped me zero in on the concept Alex taught. I also liked how Alex wrote about the writer's mindset and the journey along the way. His warm heart shows through this wonderful resource.

I want to thank you for the Purpose Statement System course. I've been struggling to clarify my purpose, niche, and goals, and the course was really the first thing that broke through for me. You talk about a lot of deep psychological ideas in a very engaging and practical way. And you've provided a framework that is different, fun, and profound, with helpful examples from your own life. I enjoyed reading the advice in this book lots of real time examples and also lots of soulful advice about the profession and introspection. A nice overview of the industry.

I have unsubscribed from 90% of the creators that I was following. And not yours. I read them most of the time. I would say there are too many BUT it is very consistent so don't stop that.  Why I haven't unsubscribed is your tone. Your way of writing is very supportive, but not in a Tony Robbins kind of way. It's accessible and easy to understand. And it feels achievable. You don't make the leap between present me and future me feel too giant. So keep doing what you are doing.

What a positive impact you are having on my life. I have taken your principles and applied them to my craft. I have always loved art but life got in the way, and I became worried about what people thought. You helped me change all that. I found the time, and got over my insecurities. "The Art of Self-Respect" is a phenomenal book, with a very fitting title. I absolutely love Alex's writing voice...his command of words is powerful and effective, forcing you to stop and think, with minimal effort. The written quality alone is exceptional, but even further the content addresses a major topic from a completely fresh angle. The title is profound in addressing a common misconception about what self-respect is. It isn't a science or a raw calculation, but is an art that requires a sense of nuance and finesse which can only come from, first, learning how to honor yourself, and, second, changing the habits you adopt. Many feel that self-respect must be given...that in order to respect themselves, others must approve of them and respect them, leading to recurring disappointment, and perpetual frustration. Alex does a remarkable job of teaching people how to escape that cycle. He redefines self-respect as something that should be had, but not by someone giving it to you, but by you choosing to take hold of it. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who is wanting to better understand what self-respect is, and to gain it on a level that resonates deeper than the messages many of us have received from western culture. Self-respect begins with understanding how to value things as a whole, and to get down to the nitty gritty questions most hesitate to ask. Alex walks with you through the process masterfully, with thoughtful contemplation, a practical twist, and a humorous air that leaves you deep in thought and light-hearted by the end. He encourages readers to become the kind of person that others would want to respect, through humility, service, humor, and respecting the value you can bring to the world. If you are looking for a book that is meaningful and that can help change your thinking as well as your self-perception, would definitely recommend!

You are an excellent communicator - my god, the years I’ve spent in therapy (really!) and all the other heavy dry books I couldn’t focus long enough to drag myself through - and you made it all simple, and human, and natural.  Thank you, you may be charged with changing my life! I followed the link at the bottom of one of your emails and bought your book, The Art of Self Respect. I have only read about six pages and I am already relaxed, optimistic, feeling safer in my body and smiling like a happy cat. What you say, so simply, is just the truth. And it’s gentle!

I saw only one negative review here saying simply ‘crap’ - sadly the reader missed the pot of gold that lies here. Maybe don’t do the same yourself. Buy it, open your mind, read it with an open mind … and thank Alex for his generous insights (on the shoulders of other great wise people) and his quality writing style. This book is now my routine. You need to get out of your comfort zone to succeed and Alex Mathers, the author, helps you doing this. You just need to listen to his advices. I buyed around 4 books for my illustration career and this is the best one so far. Anyone that wants to understand more about business should read it. Being a freelance illustrator is 50% art and 50% business.

I don't know if it's just me, but more and more newsletters are starting to look alike. There's one that truly stands out. Mastery Den from Alex Mathers. I've been subscribed for months now. I always open it and I find a golden nugget in there every time.

Really enjoyed the course. Alex breaks down concepts in simple language and snappy, easy-to-understand chunks. I read one chapter per day, which gave me the opportunity to try out the helpful exercises and let the learnings sink in over time. This is an excellent book. I just started reading and I’ve had it for quite a while. I’m glad I just started reading it. It’s an easy read easy to understand. He focuses a lot on disciplining yourself to listen when people speak and gaining respect by doing so so far so good that’s all I’ve got to share for now but I highly suggest this book super easy super thin. There's the sea of copycats preaching productivity and flow. Then there's Alex who actually delivers without that nauseating preaching. I'll never forget our first Zoom where he showcased a genuine sense of curiosity for my origin story and goals. No selling. No hidden motives. Just conversation to explore. If more creators adopted that mindset ("just explore"), the "writing" space would be in an empathetic, more genuine place... like Alex.
